Finding My Voice

Confidence has never come easily to me.
Whether it was delivering speeches in class or speaking up in group discussions, I often felt as though my voice was smaller than everyone else’s.

When I finished high school, I made myself a promise: to say yes to new experiences and challenge myself to grow, not only in how others saw me, but in how I saw myself.

That promise was tested in January 2023, when my life changed almost overnight.
I stepped into my first full-time job, moved to a new town on my own, started university, and began a career I never imagined for myself, journalism.

In high school, I had briefly considered becoming a journalist, but I dismissed the idea, convinced my lack of confidence would hold me back.

Those first few weeks were daunting.
Adjusting to the nine-to-five routine and learning the fast-paced rhythm of newsroom writing felt overwhelming. Covering my first events alone was nerve-racking, but each assignment taught me something new. Slowly, I began to notice changes in how I carried myself, how I spoke to people, and how I approached challenges.

Now, two and a half years later, the difference is remarkable.
The nervous graduate who once doubted her abilities has grown into a journalist who can walk into any room with a story to tell.

I still have moments of hesitation, but they no longer define me.
My confidence, in my work, my voice, and myself, is stronger than I ever believed it could be.

“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.”
